This 5/16" diameter extension installs on the end of the Tree Saver spout and most of the industries health, or other 5/16" spouts. This extension allows maple syrup producers to limit the effects of bacteria closing the tap holes prematurely during the sugaring season. Any spout that has been used previous years has bacteria inbedded in the plastic, and that bacteria will immediately infect the hole upon tapping. By using the new tip each year the tap hole stays cleaner, and this will extend the season allowing maple syrup makers to produce more maple syrup. A 5/16" diameter hole is drilled into the maple tree approximately 1-1/2" into the tree. The spout extension is then tapped lightly with a hammer using wrist only into the tree. Once the extension is installed 3/8" - 5/8" into the tree and is firmly seated into the maple tree the tree saver spout or other 5/16" diameter spout should be pushed in with a quarter twist, and then tapped once very lightly with a hammer. DO NOT OVERDRIVE THE TREE SAVER SPOUT EXTENSION INTO THE TREE OR THE SPOUT INTO THE EXTENSION due to risk that the tree may split creating a costly leak, and more damage to the tree. Over driving the spout into the extension will make the fittings very difficult to separate at the end of the year.
